Every year the Bastrop Education Foundation chooses a select few students from a pool of candidates to be that years “Rising Stars,” a group of students who the teachers feel are truly exceptional in and out of the classroom.

Last year, to celebrate our 20th anniversary, the LIVESTRONG Foundation launched a brand new event - the LIVESTRONG Honor 5K and 10K in downtown Austin. More than 1200 runners and walkers joined us for this inaugural event and helped raise over $68,000 to fund programs and services for cancer patients and their families.

I am pleased to share with you two newly updated documents: our YMCA community standards and staff pledge.

Before you read those documents, I want to share with you the mission and meaning behind them.

“So many people are doing things against the odds with no guarantee whatsoever. I feel we are living through one of the most hopeful times we’ve ever had.”

Since its inception in 2007, the meaning of Autism Awareness Month, now called Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month, has undergone a dramatic transformation. We no longer spend the month of April hoping for a cure for autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
