How did the Work Out At All the Branches day start in the first place?
It was 2010 — and I was thinking about how much growth and expansion the YMCA of Austin had achieved since I first joined the Metro Board in 1989.
I thought it might be fun to spend one full day going to each center of the Association.

Pardon Our Dust: Kids Play Redesign STEM Spot
Calling all fans of fun, interactive learning, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Northwest’s Kids Play redesign project will open this November with an area we’re calling STEM Spot that features open-ended STEM-based exhibits that allow visitors to experiment and build repeatedly.
Northwest Y’s Sr. Youth & Family Director, Abby Mechling, who is project managing the redesign of Kids Play, can’t decide which of the STEM exhibits is her favorite.

Northwest Y’s Leadership Team is Growing: Welcome Our New Associate Executive Director
Lauren Brun
Join us in welcoming Lauren Brun on August 17 as the Northwest Family YMCA’s new Associate Executive Director. Lauren will be working alongside Sr. Executive Director, Adrienne Barnett, who now oversees both Northwest Family YMCA and the new Four Points YMCA opening in 2024. The Greater Austin YMCA is growing!
Lauren started her Y journey as a lifeguard and swim instructor during college. After graduating, she moved to Florida working with Tampa YMCA as a lifeguard, front desk representative and Aquatics and Sport Coordinator
