Ways to Give & Receive Support in Wake of the Central Texas Floods

Published On: July 8, 2025Categories: Blog

All of us at the Greater Austin YMCA share in the heartache stemming from recent events across the Texas Hill Country.  We stand ready to support our neighbors in need and are actively communicating with local emergency management leaders to identify the most effective ways to support those impacted. As supply drives reach capacity, we are hearing that financial donations are the best way to support organizations on the ground, including:

  • Kerr County Flood Relief Fund – The Community Foundation of the Hill Country – a 501(c)(3) public charity serving the Texas Hill Country – will direct funds to vetted organizations providing rescue, relief, and recovery efforts as well as flood assistance. Donate here
  • The American Red Cross – The American Red Cross Serving Central and South Texas has opened shelters in the affected areas. Visit RedCross.org/donate and select “Your Local Red Cross” or Disaster Relief as a donation option. You can also call 1-800-HELP NOW (1-800-435-7669) to donate over the phone.
  • The Salvation Army – The Salvation Army Texas’ mobile kitchen is providing meals and hydration to those affected by the floods in Kerrville. You can support their work by donating at HelpSalvationArmy.org or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.

We’re also working to coordinate a longer-term regional response from Texas YMCAs to support the Kerrville YMCA and community. We will provide details as they come into place, including how YMCA members may volunteer to support recovery efforts.

In the meantime, we are offering up to 3 free counseling to those impacted through our Greater Austin YMCA Counseling services, a partnership with St. Edwards University and Texas State University. If you or someone you know is struggling to process these events or needs support, our Greater Austin YMCA Counseling services are available for in-person and telehealth visits. While registering, simply select a counselor and then choose “Flood Support” from the list of options to schedule your free sessions.

Please follow our social media channels for updates on the specific needs of our neighbors.

Thank you for being a part of our YMCA community as we come together to provide support during this difficult time.
