The Greater Austin YMCA, KABOOM!, and Delta Air Lines will come together on April 25 to build a brand-new, kid-designed playground at East Communities YMCA—expanding access to safe, high-quality play for families in Central Texas.
Designed with direct input from local children, this playground reflects what kids say they need most: a place to move, imagine, connect, and belong.
At a time when many children face limited access to outdoor spaces, increased screen time, and rising mental health challenges, access to play has never been more essential. The Greater Austin YMCA is committed to ensuring every child has a place to grow stronger—physically, socially, and emotionally.
Community voice shaped every step of this project. In February, children at the East Communities YMCA shared drawings of their dream play spaces. Those ideas were brought to life in the final design, which will feature slides, swings, and imaginative play elements that invite creativity, movement, and connection.
Once complete, the playground will serve hundreds of families each year—creating a safe, welcoming space where kids can build confidence, develop friendships, and experience the simple, powerful joy of play.
As KABOOM! celebrates its 30th year, this build reflects the joy of kids, communities, and partners. In partnership with Delta Air Lines, this project is part of a national effort to address playspace inequity and ensure all kids, regardless of zip code, have access to inspiring places to play.
