Safety comes first in swim lessons at Greater Austin YMCA pools. Learn more about our swimming policies by age group and skill level. You can help us keep our pools safe and enjoyable for everyone by adhering to these commonsense rules.

Swim Test Policy

All swimmers under age 14 musts take a swim test and wear a swim band based on their swimming ability before entering the water. Other swimmers may be asked to take a swim test at the lifeguard’s discretion. The swim test consists of underwater submersion, a 25-yard freestyle swim and a 30-second water tread.
