The YMCA afterschool program is the ideal out-of-school time opportunity for your child to grow academically, emotionally, and physically. The afterschool care program offers a constructive balance of counselor led activities and free time for child exploration. Enrichment curriculum is alinged with school standards and includes arts and crafts, science/math activities, nutrition/wellness activities, character developments/assets and literacy. In addition, the Y delivers CATCH physical activity lessons daily and has made a commitment to meet the Y's Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards (HEPA). Lastly, there is always time for homework, a nutritious afternoon snack, and outside time on the playground.
The end of each afterschool day will include Centers: Gamers Gateway, Hard Hat Hideout (building), Craft Corner (art), Imagination Station, and Book Nook.
Children are divided into age-appropriate groups for many of the daily activities. Special day-long programs, called All Day Cares, are available for most school holidays (see calendars below) and for all early release days. Care on these days is included with your monthly fees. As with all of our programs, the after school program emphasizes our five character values: respect, responsibility, honesty, faith, and caring. In addition to the Y's character values, the afterschool curriculum is built on the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) standards and the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets.

Financial Assistance Policy: YMCA of Austin programs and activities are designed to benefit persons of all backgrounds, and fees are based on the cost of providing each program. While participants are expected to pay their fair share, when financial assistance dollars are available, the YMCA will assist any individual or family that wants to participate in the afterschool care program but cannot afford the fee.
If you are requesting to pay the FA rate at Altamira, Blackshear, IDEA Allan, IDEA Rundberg, Ridgetop, or Rodriguez Afterschool programs, you do NOT need to complete the FA packet.
Financial Assistance (FA) applicants are required to complete the packet below.
Only completed packets (including proof of income) will be accepted and processed. The YMCA strongly encourages parents to apply early for financial assistance as funds are limited.
Many area schools already partner to deliver CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) physical activity lessons and now, so does the Y. In both Afterschool and Summer Camp, Y staff are now teaching CATCH Kids club games and activities daily. This curriculum has 25 years of university led research and has been shown to have statistically significant and positive impacts on child health behaviors including: increase in moderate to vigorous physical activity levels, improvement in self-reported food choice habits, positive family impact, and reduction in childhood obesity levels and risk factors.
Ask your children how they are enjoying active, team building, non-elimination games and activities at the Y.
