Salsa, Sabor, y Salud

Salsa, Sabor, y Salud (SSyS) is a healthy lifestyle program designed for Latino families and delivered in Spanish. The eight-week program, developed by the National Latino Children's Institute (NCLI), focuses on how small changes at home can lead to greater health and well-being for the whole family. The program is sponsored by the Kraft Foods Foundation. Since 2002, 32,000 Latinos have participated in the Salsa, Sabor, y Salud program. The collaboration with the Y will help to expand the program through its nationwide network so that more families across the nation can develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Does Salsa, Sabor, y Salud Work?

A few years ago, the University of Illinois conducted an evaluation of the Salsa, Sabor, y Salud program and the results were extremely positive. For example, 93% of the participants surveyed said they were eating more nutritious meals, and participants increased the number of days they were exercising each week from 2 to 3.5.
