All Staff Brian Carter Chief Operations Officer YMCA of Austin Association Offices Send a Message Languages Spoken English Brian Carter was named Chief Operations Officer at the YMCA of Austin in November, 2022, succeeding Louis Lopez, who was named President and CEO at the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. Brian joined the Austin Y team in April, 2022, as Chief Experience Officer after serving as Board Chair of the Hays Communities YMCA since 2020. In his time with the Y, he has demonstrated a deep understanding of the Y Mission and clear grasp of the opportunities that lay ahead for our organization. Brian brings unique perspective and experience to our Y from his work at Capital Metro, SeaWorld and the San Antonio Zoo. With a career spanning 20+ years, he understands how to navigate across multiple public stakeholder groups while simultaneously creating transformative, best-in-class experiences and destinations for members and customers. As COO, Brian will oversee development of the new Four Points YMCA, expansion of YMCA Camp Moody and revitalization of the Austin Y brand. Over the last two decades, Brian Carter has grown revenue profitably, managed businesses, and built brands for organizations in leisure, transportation, and non-profit. Brian was previously the EVP, Chief Experience & Engagement Officer (CXO) for CapMetro, a public transit agency delivering more than 30 million trips annually to customers in the Austin, Texas region. Since he joined CapMetro in 2018, Brian has been leading the agency’s business development and public awareness efforts, which include a historic and successful ballot measure in November 2020 to fund a $7.1 billion expansion of the region’s transit network. Brian was responsible for implementing a strategic plan to elevate the agency’s customer experience efforts, including consumer technology, rider amenities, customer service, and brand reputation. He began his leadership career as the Director of Marketing and Communication for the Memphis Zoo where he oversaw campaigns supporting three major capital expansions. Since then Brian has led marketing, communication, sales, and events teams as a Director for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment in San Antonio, Texas, and later as Vice President for San Antonio Zoo. He spends his free time training for his next half marathon and exploring state and national parks alongside his wife Kendall, their three children, and two dogs.
