At the Y, kids can meet new friends, build skills, develop interests and try new things in a supportive environment with caring adults. Abundant choices are available for all skill levels and pursuits.
Our SNAP Gymnastics program serves children ages 2-12 years of age, dealing with various hurdles such as Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and other physical and cognitive challenges. Studies have shown that sports and activities that focus on basic movement skills, such as gymnastics, are extremely beneficial to children with special needs. Classes that focus on physical activity and participation can be a positive influence on the daily life of a child with disabilities and are usually highly recommended by doctors and physical therapists.
Some of the benefits include:
- increased physical activity
- healthy way to control obesity
- improvement in self-confidence and self-image
- increased social skills
- motivation to try and do new things
While the physical activity is very helpful, the overall participation in gymnastics, which includes support, interaction with others, goals and rewards, makes for a very positive experience for both the child and family.
