Bastrop Y Community Garden!

In partnership with the City of Bastrop, the Bastrop Community Garden has beds available for adoption! The goal is to have beds adopted by organizations, civic groups, non-profits and families with the intent of using the garden as a teaching tool.

In order to adopt a bed, those interested will need to fill out an agreement. The guidelines are that those who adopt a bed are responsible for: upkeep of the bed (this includes cleaning, planting and watering) as well as cleaning out and preparing after the season for the next planting season.

Inspire Healthy Eating with our July Junior Chef Class

It is so important for children to learn at a young age how necessary healthy eating is to growing big and strong!

A local chef will lead this class that teaches the importance of proper nutrition and shows kids ages 6 to 12 how to make a nutritious snack. Children who participate will make a healthy, tasty treat that they can eat! Afterwards they will participate in a craft project about nutrition!

The class is held on Monday, July 10th from 4:30pm to 5:20pm at the Kerr Center – 1308 Walnut St. Bastrop TX. 78602.

Blood Drive is back on July 1!

One of our members, Paul, has been working with We Are Blood to organize regular blood drives here at the Town Lake branch. When you donate blood on July 1, you will receive a FREE ticket to Alamo Drafthouse Movie Theater! There’s no better way to beat the heat than with a movie and a large bucket of popcorn – plus, donating blood is a good thing, and you should do it. The mobile blood donation bus will be at the branch from 10am-1pm on Saturday.

Lifeguard on Duty

Take a Stand. Be a leader.  Be a Lifeguard.

A lifeguard develops the skills everyone needs but few achieve; leadership, teamwork and self-confidence. When you choose to become a lifeguard you are taking a stand to be a lifesaver, to protect others, and to serve your community. Develop the skills you will need to succeed, gain personal and professional confidence, and even advance into an aquatics career.

Youth & Government: Developing Leaders

Does your child have the potential to be a future leader?  Are they kind of a big deal?

Then they need to be part of the YMCA's Youth & Government program.

The Texas Youth and Government Program is the place for any student eager for their voice to be heard. With opportunities to exercise their theatrical side, their debate skills, and their writing skills there’s a place for everyone in Youth & Government.

Tree huggers have to make hard decisions, too!

We love our trees just as much as you do, so we want to ensure you that we are keeping any and all that are healthy and safe. As many of you have learned, a couple weeks ago we had one of the large trees behind the facility topple onto a few cars, totaling at least one and severely damaging a few others. This was, in part, due to the rotting at the base of the tree and the angle at which it was growing.
