The Kindness Rocks Project at the Bastrop YMCA!

Let’s spread positivity in our community! “The Kindness Rocks Project” is an effort to spread good vibes by painting rocks with positive messages for others to find! This project is spreading all over the country - let's aid in the effort at the Bastrop Y!

Here's how it works: paint a positive message on a rock, place it somewhere in town, make someone smile! Use #YKR512 to let us know you found one!

Think this is something your family would enjoy?

Teen Cooking Class - "You Want Me To Eat What?"

We get it – there are some foods you just don’t like. What if we told you that they actually are delicious, and we could show you how to prepare them? Our “You Want Me To Eat What?” Teen Cooking Class aims to teach teens that eating healthy is not only necessary for good health, but yes, it actually can be fun!

In this class, Chef McMasters will be assisting a group of teens as they prepare a healthy meal together. They will learn valuable cooking techniques and fun new ways to prepare delicious, healthy meals that they will enjoy at the end of class.

American Sign Language for ages 5-12 & 13 and up!

What is American Sign Language?

American Sign Language is a way of communicating by moving the hands in combination with facial expressions and postures of the body. This is the primary language used by those who are hard of hearing or deaf.

In this six week course, participants will learn: the alphabet, numbers 1-9, common phrases, grammar, the history of sign language, deaf education and more!

Learning a new language is fun and educational at any age - let the Bastrop YMCA get you started!

Bastrop YMCA Community Art Days

Need a creative outlet for the whole family? Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month we'll be hosting a 45-minute opportunity for members of the Bastrop Y to come in and paint! This program is FREE for YMCA members! Our art instructor Serena will be standing by to teach participants a few tips and tricks to help you create a masterpiece.

This class requires no registration, members can simply walk in and paint away! Our goal is to introduce individuals to art and/or be a place where members can unwind and make whatever they choose.

Kettlebells 101

Kettlebells are an effective cardio and strength training that builds muscular strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity.

They can be used in ballistic swinging movements which utilize the whole body along with momentum in more traditional press and squat exercises. Kettlebell exercises are exercises requiring full body integration and core stabilization. There is no such thing as isolated muscle work in kettlebell training. Each movement and progression is taught with an emphasis on safety, highlighting essential body alignment.
