Welcoming Week September 10-19

Multiple Venues

Welcoming Week Is Sept. 10-19, 2021!

We know communities are stronger and more cohesive when people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to get to know one another and work side by side to advance the common good. Created by YMCA of the USA’s national partner, Welcoming America, Welcoming Week is a national celebration that brings together immigrants and U.S.-born residents at community-based events to promote cross-cultural understanding and raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone!

Refugee Services of Texas reports that Austin expects to receive around 200 refugees from Afghanistan in the month of September. If you’d like to help welcome these families, your nearest YMCA facility is collecting donations of new, unopened personal and household items:

  • Toothbrushes & toothpaste
  • Soap
  • Shampoo & conditioner
  • Menstrual supplies
  • Multipurpose cleaning products
  • Sponges

Join us at one of these Welcoming Week events, or stop into your nearest Y location to celebrate being a welcomer all week long!
