Awards and Recognition:

The Will W. Miller Award is presented to a person of high character and commitment whose leadership and vision have made only the most significant and long-lasting contributions to this Association. This year's winner is Dick Schwab.

  • Dick Schwab has provided caring, reliable and solid leadership during his tenure as Board Chair at the Northwest Family YMCA. He has led his board and branch through a period of outstanding membership and program growth and a significant renovation and expansion. During 16-years as a member of the YMCA of Austin, he has always been there to support the staff and the YMCA mission.

The Gerald T. Olson Award is presented to outstanding volunteers in our community who have served the Y in a significant way over the past year. This year's winner is Sharon Mays.

  • Dorothee Auldridge began as a Y volunteer in 2009, offering tremendous time and energy to further the Y's mission at both the branch and Association level. She perfectly balances the role of branch volunteer and Metro Board volunteer, always advocating for the branch and bringing high-level perspective gained from her engaged role at Metro. She has served as a branch board chair, branch Annual Campaign Chair and Association Annual Campaign Chair.
  • Angela Peterson has been a member since 2011. She has worked as lead designer for the Southwest Y renovation, enabling her to experience the YMCA's impact first-hand. She has played a vital role in the expansion of Special Needs Adaptive Programming (SNAP), providing valuable insight to under-served populations and helping create fruitful relationships with Dell Children's Hospital. She took the helm of the Board Recruitment Task Force in 2014, where her energy, enthusiasm and leadership resulted in seven new board members in three short months.
  • Ellie Falcao began serving as a Program Services Board Member in 2014 and hit the ground running. In 2015, she served as Co-Chair of Family Play Day, refocusing the event from one targeted to kids and camp to a newly branded event aimed at families and highlighting all the important programs offered by Program Services. A true Y advocate, she successfully secured sponsorships from local businesses for Family Play Day, assisted with event logistics, help Y staff examine the event with a new perspective and motivated staff and volunteers to make last year's event the best one yet. She has recently joined the leadership board for YMCA Camp Cypress, giving of her time and talents to bring this grand vision to life.
