Awards and Recognition:

The Will W. Miller Award is presented to a person of high character and commitment whose leadership and vision have made only the most significant and long-lasting contributions to this Association.

  • Mark Stuckey: The Will W. Miller volunteer leadership award is presented annually to a person of high character and commitment whose leadership and vision have made only the most significant and long-lasting contributions to this association. The Will W. Miller award recognizes a key volunteer who has not only inspired others, but has helped the ymca of austin enrich the lives of people in our community. Like many others, Mark Stuckey got involved with the YMCA through a program. But in this case, the circumstances where dramatically different. His wife had just completed cancer treatment, and she started on her own journey to rebuild spirit, mind and body through the livestrong at the YMCA  program.  Seeing the Y mission at work inspired our recipient to take action of his own, not only through Y membership, but by offering his time, talent and treasure to ensure the Y is able to meet the needs of those who need it most. Since joining as a branch board member more than 4 years ago, he has set the standard for volunteer branch leadership. Armed with a keen, analytical mind of an engineer, he’s applied his project management expertise to his role as board chair. To serve the greater good, our recipient assumed the role of annual giving campaign chair for 2017. He is always there when you need him with a word of support or a bit of guidance, never shy to offer suggestions and back them; up with action. We are very fortunate to have him as part of our YMCA family.

The Gerald T. Olson Award is presented to outstanding volunteers in our community who have served the Y in a significant way over the past year. This year's winner is Sharon Mays.

  • Randy Teich: Randy Teich has been active with the YMCA of Austin for the past 10 years. He was an early champion of a YMCA/ City of Austin collaboration  And served as the North Austin Civic Association’s neighborhood representative on the design committee for what would become Austin’s newest YMCA.  With a true commitment to the community, he also serves on the Restore Rundberg team, working to make rundberg-area neighborhoods safer for all residents. He also serves on the board of the foundation for the homeless, assisting with their breakfast program for the past 9 years.
  • Sarah Roper-Coleman: After joining as a board member in 2014, Sarah Roper-Coleman jumped right in as a leader and advocate, immediately engaging her entire family and recruiting her sister to the join the board also. Since 2015 she has served in the role of branch board chair, and under her leadership and vision the branch has thrived, even exceeding fundraising goals annually. Her advocacy extends beyond the branch and she has served on the Camp Cypress Capital Campaign Leadership Advisory Council, and is currently serving on a special joint task force. She is blessed with grace, integrity, humility and most of all, with generosity. She loves to give and has a special place in her heart for service and for the Y.
