Zumba Gold: A First-Timer's Testimonial

Tyler Wagner, a YMCA intern, recently tried Zumba Gold for the first time. He was smiling so big when he emerged from the gym that we asked him to write about his experience.

Tyler titled it: Zumba Gold: A First-Timer's Testimonial

"After seeing so many smiling faces leaving the Y after the Thursday Zumba Gold class, week after week, I decided to give it a try. I’m not much of a dancer, but hearing the music coming from the upstairs gym peaked my curiosity.

"Initially, I was worried about being awkward and out of place, considering the class seemed to be full of regular participants who already knew all the moves. That fear was washed away within the first song after seeing how fun and encouraging Vanessa, the instructor, was with the whole group.

"I had small moments of being self-conscious with my dancing and form, but she stopped those thoughts when she reminded the group that the class was a judgement-free zone and everyone should just have fun with it. Everyone seemed to be following that advice as the room was full of smiles and waves to each other as late arrivers entered the class.

"This class and overall experience proves as yet another example of the YMCA of Austin providing an unmatched community atmosphere for all to experience. If you have been on the fence about trying Zumba Gold, or any other group exercise class, I would highly recommend giving it a shot."
