YMCA Camp Moody's Groundbreaking Success

The YMCA Camp Moody Groundbreaking Celebration was a success! We were nearly blown away (literally and figuratively) with over 200 supporters in attendance and nature’s power and beauty to impress us all on Saturday, April 13. It was a memorable day of reflecting on all the generosity and hard work that has brought us to this point, and celebrating what is to come in the near future. Camp Moody will be a place where ALL children and families can experience the joy and freedom that camp provides!

During the program, we heard from many key partners and advocates of the project, including:

  • Kate Henderson, YMCA of Austin CVO
  • Krista Gregory, Dell Children’s Medical Center
  • James Finck, YMCA of Austin President/CEO
  • Wes Yonge, The Yonge Family Foundation
  • Vanessa Petrea, Hays CISD Board of Trustees
  • Riley Ballay, HCISD Student Athlete/YMCA Lifeguard
  • Chris Szeliga, JE Dunn Construction
  • Jackie Cox, YMCA Parent/Autism Accessibility Taskforce
  • Remarks from Ross Moody, Moody Foundation
  • Paul Hoffman and Ellie Falcao, Camp Moody Capital Campaign Co-Chairs

Read the remarks by Ross Moody of the Moody Foundation below.

“Despite my disappointment of not being able to celebrate with you on Saturday, I wanted to express my thanks to the board and management of the YMCA, the Capital Campaign Cabinet, the Leadership Advisory Council and, of course, the founding supporters who have been so generous with their resources and the volunteers who have been so generous with their time.

The trustees of the Moody Foundation recognized the multitude of benefits that the camp would offer to individuals, families and, in fact, to entire communities.  In line with a Core Value of the YMCA [strengthening families] offering day and overnight camp, parent and child programming, outdoor education and providing a retreat center will do just that.

Like the mission of YMCA Camp Moody, our goal is also is to get people active and outside.  From this camp to our recent gifts to the Blanton Museum, the Pease Park and Waller Creek Conservancies, Republic Park and The Contemporary, our goal is to educate, entertain, excite and activate people’s minds and bodies through our natural environment.  This camp does exactly that and I couldn’t be happier.

Thanks to all of you who made YMCA Camp Moody a reality.”
