Y on the Water with The Expedition School

We are thrilled to announce that the TownLake YMCA will be partnering with The Expedition School starting January 2020 to create Y on the Water; a series of fun, accessible paddle/kayak programs that will serve both Y Members and the Austin community at large.

Y on the Water was born out of the mission to increase awareness of the wild spaces that we have within our urban landscape, to learn and improve upon a variety of paddling techniques, to increase our community approach to water safety, to build on the legendary fitness regimens that Austinites are known for, and to increase availability and accessibility of these types of programs to our community.

Our goal with these new programs is to offer a safe, educational, inclusive, and fun experience on the water to as many people as possible!

Current 2020 Y on the Water programs include:

  • Women’s Only Paddle
    • Join us every Sunday morning for a womens only paddle on Town Lake from March through Oct. 18. Ages 16 & Up Learn More & Register Here
    • Update: Members can now bring non-member guests with them! It’s $20 per guest, to be paid onsite on the day-of. Guests can only participate once, then they’ll need a YMCA membership to participate again.
  • Youth Paddles In an inclusive and encouraging environment, youth ages 8-15 learn water safety, how to paddle, kayak, or canoe, and about the natural flora and fauna of Town Lakes ecosystem. Learn More & Register Here

About The Expedition School & our partnership:

The Expedition School has supported Austin and the surrounding communities since 2006. The professional guides and instructors at The Expedition School are committed to realizing positive, healthy change in their students, be that through paddling, mountain biking, climbing, or a CPR class. They have been working in cooperation with the YMCA for years, establishing water safety and drowning prevention awareness and safety training courses in the community. Additionally, The Expedition School serves a group of blind and visually impaired youth through adaptive programming, some of which is hosted at the TownLake YMCA.

See you on the water!
