In Conversation with Community |
Over the past two weeks, YMCA centers have hosted Community Gatherings as an opportunity to hear from you about where our organization can best serve now and in the future. So many members came to these events to help identify key issues that challenge our community and how the YMCA might play an active role in addressing them. Y members influence important issues that matter to the community. With your insights and partnership, we are poised to move forward strategically to ensure better access for all. Thank you for being part of this effort. Here’s what’s happening this month at the Y. Pizza Night is at MOD Pizza! This September 6, raise some dough for kids in Extend-A-Care YMCA’s afterschool program when you dine at MOD. They’ll share 20% of proceeds to support kids in our community. D-100 Welcoming Week – September 9-18 Welcoming Week is a national celebration that brings together immigrants and U.S.-born residents at community-based events to promote cross-cultural understanding and raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone! We’ll host activities in our Welcome Center and Child Watch all week long to help celebrate our homes and acknowledge the big world we live in. Take Action: We’re teaming with Refugee Services of Central Texas to support the many refugees in our community from Afghanistan, Ukraine and other countries around the world. You can play an active role by joining or forming a Welcome Team to provide refugee families with a supportive network as they adjust to their new life in Texas! Welcome Teams are paired with an arriving refugee family prior to their arrival in the U.S., and assist with everything from apartment set-up all the way to enrolling children in school! We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors.
