Making a World of Difference

Last month a delegation of Austin Y staff and volunteers traveled to Aarhus, Denmark, for the 20th World Council of YMCAs.

Ys from around the globe gathered together to build cross-cultural understanding and to help shape the future of our organization. This year, delegates from 80+ nations attended the event online or in-person.

Participating in the World Council was a powerful experience, with thousands of like-minded professionals and volunteers coming together united around our cause.

This historic event also focused on the adoption of  Vision 2030. Endorsed by Y leaders around the globe, this collective strategy will help our organization create change through four pillars of impact: Community Well-being, Meaningful Work, a Sustainable Planet and a Just World.

Here in the Austin area, we need your help shaping the future of the YMCA! You are invited to attend one of our eight Community Gatherings this month to provide input on the YMCA of Austin’s proposed 5-year strategic plan.

We’ll identify key issues challenging our community and how the Y might play an active role in addressing them. These are open house style events where you’ll have a chance to learn about the YMCA and provide input on the proposed plan. Plus, we’ll have free food and activities for the whole family.

Summer Camp Olympics Returns

First in-person celebration since 2019

More than 750 Y kids from 15 summer day camps celebrated Camp Olympics Friday, July 29, at AISD Toney Burger Center, marking the first in-person gathering since 2019. In the week leading up to the event, kids studied the history and culture of their adopted country, then created banners, flags, costumes and other decorations to represent each nation before having fun with a variety of water-based field games. Special thanks to Raising Cane’s for providing lunch to all the campers as well as Verizon for bringing out volunteers to help run the day’s activities. View the full photo album.

Water Safety Matters

Did you know that drowning is one of the leading causes of preventable death for children under the age of five? Teaching children to swim is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. That’s why we’re conducting a fundraising campaign to support our water safety programs, ensuring that all of our neighbors have access to lifesaving skills.

And now, you have the opportunity to DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT with your gift, thanks to a $10,000 matching gift from Infineon Technologies. Thank you for investing in children’s safety through water education & swim lessons.
