Here’s what’s happening at TownLake Y this month

Pool & Facility Updates

As we move into the busier summer months, changes are in store for our pools & facilities.

Lap swimmers now enjoy expanded swim times and more reservation options:

  • 55 Minute Swim: Lap swim reservations will be 55 minutes instead of 45 minutes, except for the last swim of the day. These changes will begin May 1-3.
  • Top of the Hour: Lap swim starts at the :00 minute mark instead of the :15 minute mark of the hour.
  • No Limit on Number of Reservations: in the past you have been limited to three lap swim reservations per week. You may now reserve as many swim times as you like per week.
  • More Shared Lanes: single lane reservations will be limited to Monday-Friday 1PM & 2PM. All other times will be shared lanes. Check with the Aquatics staff for details.

Expanded Hours of Operation

Our CURRENT hours of operation are:

  • Monday-Thursday 6AM-9PM
  • Friday 6AM-7PM

  • Saturday 8AM-3PM

We’ll observe expanded hours of operation beginning Saturday, May 22:

  • Monday - Thursday 6AM-9PM
  • Friday 6AM-7PM
  • Saturday 8AM-6PM
  • Sunday 12PM-6PM
  • Childwatch MWF 4:30PM-7PM; T&TH 10AM-12PM; Sat 9AM-12PM

Memorial Day Monday, May 31: 8AM-3PM

Group Exercise Changes

  • NEW! AOA Fitness: Fridays, 9am
  • Canceled: Kickboxing, Wednesday 1:15pm
  • Canceled: Body Combat, Thursday, 4:45pm
  • Moving: RPM Cycling, Sat @10:15am to 9am
  • Moving: Vinyasa Yoga, Fri @ 5pm to 5:30pm
  • NEW! Body Flow: Saturdays, 10:15am

Classes for Seniors

As we are starting to see more seniors coming back to our Y, we know many of you are looking for your “Senior” or “Active Older Adult” classes that you took a year ago. While all of those classes have not yet returned, we do offer several classes that are senior friendly at the TownLake location:

  • AOA Fitness: Fridays, 9am (starting May 7th)
  • Yogalates: Wed 8:15am and Sat 9am
  • Outdoor Tai Chi: Tue 10am
  • Aqua Cardio: Tue & Thur 10am
  • Aqua Fit: Tue & Thur 7pm
  • Outdoor Full Body Fit: Mon & Fri 8:15am
  • Hatha Flow: Sat 1:30pm

We also offer these classes at our Southwest location not too far away:

  • Gentle Yoga: Tue 10am, Wed 11:30am, Fri 9am and Fri 5:45am
  • Tai Chi: Thurs 11am
  • Healthy for Life: Mon 10:30am

Make Summer Matter! 

Last summer was a bummer. That’s why we’re offering a wide range of options to make this the best summer yet.

Our preschool campstheme campssports campsbasketball leaguessports skills clinics and mini-camps are engaging and fun for kids of all ages and interests. Try one or try many!

Our monthly enrollment classes continue through the summer, too. Sign up for dancegymnasticsmartial arts and swim lessons. Or parents, give yourself the gift of a free evening while kids enjoy a night out. It’s all happening at the Y!

April Check-in Challenge

So many of you put in the effort to check into the Y and keep your fitness goals on track this month! Congratulations! You’re giving yourself the gift of strength and health.

TownLake Y member Thanh L. won a free month of Y membership, and members Mark E. and Jim G. both won ballcaps! Here’s Jim wearing his! Members Robin P. and Trent U. won passes for a paddleboarding session.

Speaking of paddleboarding, The Expedition School offers paddling programs on Tuesdays:

  • Women on the Water (For female identifying and non-binary individuals) 1:30pm-3pm
  • Youth Paddles (For youth aged 7-17) 5:30pm-7pm
  • Legend Paddles (For Active Older Adults) 10am-11:30am Cost: Paddlers will be charged the same rate as we charge for rentals- $20 for a single Kayak, $25 for a stand up paddle board, $30 for a tandem kayak, and $35 for a canoe. Rates are per hour and a half. Paddles include safety equipment, paddling instruction, and a waterfront lifeguard and paddling instructor to lead the event.

As always, YMCA members receive a $5 discount!

Tell a Friend about the Y!

Our community is stronger when we support one another, and one of the best ways to ensure long-term health is by exercising with a friend! 

Did you know that when you refer a friend to join the Y, we’ll waive your friend’s fee to join. And if they remain a member for three months, YOU receive a month of membership, FREE!

New to the gym setting or still feeling a little uneasy about your weight training knowledge? Consider signing up for our Women with Weights class! Your coach, Shaylin, is a personal trainer, avid lifter and bodybuilder who has several years of experience with weight training at all levels. Over the course of 4 weeks, you will learn:Personal Training & Small Group Training

  • exercises and variations
  • proper form and technique
  • how weight lifting works with your personal goals
  • and so much more!

So, if you’re ready to take your training up a notch with a group of like minded individuals, register today.

Weightlifting 101

Weightlifting 101 is a 4-week weightlifting class where a certified trainer from the YMCA will educate you on how to properly do exercises like the squat, bench, deadlift and so much more!

During the class you will be educated on the importance of doing the given exercise, having your form observed with feedback and leave the class fully knowing how to do the given exercise by yourself with confidence.

We will briefly discuss training styles to best fit the member’s ultimate fitness goals. This class was created to educate, motivate and inspire each member to apply the valuable information given and conquer their goals with full confidence thereafter.

So if you’re ready to learn, train with purpose and stop the guessing game of what to do within every session, sign up for weightlifting 101!
