Community

Here for Good…

Last month’s extreme winter weather and the damage it brought had a profound impact on our Y community. As an organization that’s here to do good, the YMCA worked to meet immediate needs and is now looking at ways we can continue to help. Hays Communities Y staff joined the Buda mayor and other volunteers to provide barbecue plates for first responders and neighbors who needed a meal. They worked to get drinkable water to the community with the help of local firefighters.

And as the weather warmed and people got back to work, the Y opened its doors to anyone who needed a warm shower and a place to recharge, and made child watch available to members free of charge all day long.

One member wrote, “Thank you so much for offering this opportunity! Our family was still recovering after snowmageddon, and then to worry about who would help us with our children while we returned to work was an added stress. So this was amazing, and it reaffirmed for us what a valuable program Extend-A-Care YMCA is to our community.”

Watch this video to see how your Y has been and continues to be here for good! Thank you for supporting YMCA of Austin.

Food Drive

Local food banks have also faced unprecedented need in these past few weeks as families lost power and faced spoiled food and empty cupboards. We’ll be hosting a food drive March 8-27 to help replenish stocks.

To help, just bring shelf stable food and drop it in the food bank box at the Welcome Center. Food banks specifically need peanut butter, canned soup, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, pasta and beans.
