Remembering Charles Looney

We are deeply saddened to share that our dear friend, partner, and exceptional community leader, Charles Looney has passed away. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends.

Charles was the husband of current Springs Family YMCA board member Marilyn Miller. Charles’s family has an extensive history with the Y. Marilyn was initially recruited as a board member at the Southwest Family YMCA and his son, Charles Looney Jr., served as a Program Director at Program Services YMCA 12+ years ago. Charles Sr. was instrumental in the early days of the Springs Family YMCA and had a regular presence as a volunteer at many Y events.

In 2010, he received the Gerald T. Olson Distinguished Service Award - the highest award the YMCA gives - for his leadership, participation at multiple annual meetings, ribbon cuttings, and service opportunities. He was the ultimate supporter of the YMCA and his family. His genuine enthusiasm was contagious and he led the Springs YMCA to an amazing 116% goal as chair of the Annual Campaign during his leadership. For the past few years, he has been a regular at the Springs Y visiting often to exercise in the indoor pool. We are deeply honored to be a part of his life story.
