Meet the Y: TownLake intern Tyler Wagner

Greetings! My name is Tyler Wagner, and, starting this February, I’ve taken on the role as the Community Engagement intern for the Y! I’m excited to have the opportunity to meet so many people from so many walks of life and learn along the way.

I wanted to take some time to introduce myself and explain how I’ve reached this point so far in my life. I’m originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Go Steelers!) and went to Ohio University for my bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems. I joined the Army National Guard before my freshman year and served during my four years in school before ultimately graduating and joining the Active Duty Army as an officer. From graduation until my arrival to Austin, TX, I was stationed at Fort Lewis, WA as a human resources director. I will be forever grateful for the people and experiences while serving in the military and being a part of something bigger than myself.

This feeling of contributing and participating in a community is the main reason I applied for this position at the YMCA. I’m wrapping up my first week with the team here, and I can already see how the YMCA is so much more than a gym. The welcoming culture is contagious and helps build upon the community atmosphere, and I can’t wait to see how much I can learn from it.

My internship will run from now until April 18th, so please say hello if you see me around at the Welcome Center, in the gym, or in one of the group exercise classes! I look forward to hearing your stories and what the Y means to you!
