During the summers, the YMCA is especially bustling with interns and volunteers, all of whom make a unique and important impact on our community. We are pleased to introduce Devante Lucas, one of this summer’s interns at the TownLake branch.
Devante is soon to graduate from Texas State University with a bachelor of science in health and fitness management. He hails from Houston and attended James Madison High School. His focuses are Youth Sports and Marketing/Outreach.
Here Devante reflects on his decision to intern at the Y, his experience at TownLake so far, and his plans for the future.
“I decided to intern at the Y because I’ve always wanted to work at the Y and get the opportunity to give back to the community and be around great people.
“Since I’ve been here at TownLake I’ve met some awesome people from staff to the members. The atmosphere here is great and always positive so even if I feel like I’m having a bad day, it gets better once I get here.
“I’ve felt a part of the TownLake’s team since the first day I started my internship with The Y’s welcoming culture and I can say I happy that I made the decision to do my internship here.
“After my internship I plan to move to the Austin/Buda area and pursue a job in marketing and sales, since I have a minor in business, and continue to pursue a job in my actual field. I plan to still continue to come to the TownLake as a member once my internship is over and maybe try to volunteer is I’m able to.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone at the YMCA of Austin TownLake branch for having me as an intern. I’ve really been enjoying myself since I’ve been here.”
Devante, the TownLake community is thankful for YOU! We appreciate all the ways you are contributing to our programs and mission.
