Meet Kristina Lovell

My name is Kristina Lovell and I have happily dedicated 16 years to Extend-A-Care YMCA.   I am currently serving as a Senior Program Director that manages several afterschool and infant/preschool programs.

I was raised in my hometown of Lake Jackson, Texas, and moved to Austin, Texas in 2004.  I currently reside in Austin Texas with my husband and my 5-year-old son.

Prior to becoming a director, I was a site lead for afterschool, and then made my way into the preschool and infant programs as first an assistant teacher and then became a lead preschool teacher where I taught 2-4-year-olds for about 5 years.  This is where I developed a true passion within the early childhood programs.  In the classroom, I found that I was truly making a difference every day in the lives of the children I was teaching and found it very rewarding.

Because of my experience with the preschool programs, I also help oversee all of the preschool programs by organizing professional development opportunities for the teachers, develop procedures and protocols to maintain high-quality programs, and have led the team in receiving and maintaining Texas Rising Star certifications for all of our programs.

The TXAEYC stands for The Texas Association for the Education of Young Children. Each year the Austin Chapter recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Greater Austin’s early childhood community. The Austin Chapter of the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children (TXAEYC) honored me with the Administrator of the Year award in March 2021. The award ceremony took place virtually in April.

Extend-A-Care YMCA’s Executive Director Jaime Garcia said, “We are extremely proud of Kristina and all her efforts & dedication to high, quality preschool programming with continuous improvement.”
