Hays YMCA Les Mills Launch

fitness

Les Mills is no stranger to our members during their workouts at the YMCA. Members who attend our Les Mills group exercise classes are familiar with the quarterly changes of their workout songs and routines. One of the great perks of Les Mills classes is the routine members can get into with their workouts. They learn movements and songs, become more confident and proficient with each set, and once they become experts, there is a launch of new routines to master!

Usually launches of new Les Mills routines come with a celebration where dozens of people gather to try out the new routine, enjoy snacks, goodies, and prizes, and socialize with classmates and instructors. However, with the current health and safety concerns, this quarters Les Mills launch looked different at Hays Communities YMCA.

Instead of a typical gathering, the launch was smaller and not widely advertised. Members who showed up got to workout in front of a decorated stage perfect for a #SweatySelfie picture afterwards! The new tracks were introduced and members and instructors were able to try them out together for the first time.

This launch was very different but the spirit behind it was the same,” said Megan Balsdon, Hays Y Group Exercise Instructor and Les Mills Assessor.

Megan has been a familiar face in the Group X classes for a long time now. She teaches Les Mills BodyPump and BodyFlow, and has been a positive influence at the Y in keeping up with implementing the new policies. New cleaning protocols, distancing measures, and smaller class sizes have affected the way Megan teaches her classes. It is important to her however, that she is there for her class, and that includes celebrating Les Mills launches.

In this ongoing global pandemic, I think we are all craving connection with others and the YMCA is offering a safe way to achieve that.”

As always, each class can be modified for all fitness levels and each class can be taken at an individuals preferred pace and ability. Our instructors are trained to be able to offer modifications to ensure that no one is left out. If you ever need help or a modification for an exercise, just ask your instructor!
