Hays Y Newsletter: March 2021

Here for Good…

Last month’s extreme winter weather and the damage it brought had a profound impact on our Y community. As an organization that’s here to do good, the YMCA worked to meet immediate needs and is now looking at ways we can continue to help. Hays Communities Y staff joined the Buda mayor and other volunteers to provide barbecue plates for first responders and neighbors who needed a meal. They worked to get drinkable water to the community with the help of local firefighters.

And as the weather warmed and people got back to work, the Y opened its doors to anyone who needed a warm shower and a place to recharge, and made child watch available to members free of charge all day long.

One member wrote, “Thank you so much for offering this opportunity! Our family was still recovering after snowmageddon, and then to worry about who would help us with our children while we returned to work was an added stress. So this was amazing, and it reaffirmed for us what a valuable program Extend-A-Care YMCA is to our community.”

Watch this video to see how your Y has been and continues to be here for good! Thank you for supporting YMCA of Austin.

Food Drive

Local food banks have also faced unprecedented need in these past few weeks as families lost power and faced spoiled food and empty cupboards. We’ll be hosting a food drive March 8-27 to help replenish stocks.

To help, just bring shelf stable food and drop it in the food bank box at the Welcome Center. Food banks specifically need peanut butter, canned soup, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, pasta and beans.

Amplify the Y

We are grateful everyone who’s supported efforts to deliver food, water and relief to our neighbors. This week, Amplify Austin is our opportunity to come together in overwhelming numbers to help heal our community. When you support the Y during #AmplifyATX, you ensure we’re here to support our community now and in the future. Early giving is open now, and Amplify Austin is March 4-5, 2021!

Personal Training & Adult Fitness

Looking to increase your strength, balance, and over all endurance?  Come by and say hi to Mary Carroll one of your Hays YMCA Personal Trainers and  what everyone is talking about:

personal training

“Mary Carroll has been my personal trainer since February 2017. In 2 ½ years, with her assistance, I have lost 11 pounds and more than 15 inches overall including 4 ½ inches from my abdomen. She has provided precise and expert instruction on various exercises and activities to build my strength, flexibility and stamina along with my confidence and knowledge. Most important to me has been lifestyle and nutrition coaching along with careful observance and correction of my exercise form, making my work and efforts most effective and preventing injury. Mary is gentle and encouraging when I need it, and she also challenges and pushes me to do my best and to persist. I highly recommend Mary Carroll if you are looking to get fit and healthy with the help of a personal trainer!”
