20+ Halloween and Fall Events Happening at the Y

The temperature is finally dropping and pumpkin spice everything has made its way to coffee shops and grocery store shelves just about everywhere. So you know what that means: fall is officially here! We’ve rounded up 18 awesome family-friendly Halloween and autumn-themed outings and events for you to attend this season, and we guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Browse happenings going on at Ys across our association, from Northwest to Bastrop, and mark your calendars!

Bastrop Y: 

Bastrop Halloween Bash: October 31st | The Bastrop YMCA along with our friends from the Bastrop Public Library and The City of Bastrop are proud to bring you this year’s Halloween BASH!  We will have games, treats, music, dancing, hay rides and food! Bring your whole family and have some fun with us at MayFest Park! This is a free event for the community. The event will take place on Wednesday October 31, 2018, starting at 5pm-8pm. Learn More.

East Communities Y: 

Spooky Snacks Parent’s Night Out: October 20th | Celebrate the spookiest time of year by making and eating delicious, spooky treats! Along with other Halloween-themed games and activities with friends, kids will be sure to have a spooktacular time! Join us from 5 to 9pm. Register!

Halloween-Themed BodyPump: October 20th | Join us for a Halloween-themed BodyPump class from 9:30 to 10:30am. We will be launching the brand-new routine, and members are encouraged to dress up in costume to celebrate. Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically proven moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own! 

Halloween-Themed BodyCombat: October 22nd | Join us for a Halloween-themed BodyCombat class from 6:35 to 7:35pm. We will be launching a brand-new routine, and members are encouraged to dress up in costume to celebrate. BodyCombat is a high-energy martial arts-inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Learn moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Capoeira and Kung Fu. Release stress, have a blast and feel like a champ. Bring your best fighter attitude and leave inhibitions at the door.

City of Austin/North Austin YMCA

Fall Harvest Festival: October 28th | Join your friends at the North Austin Y for spooky fun for everyone! The Fall Harvest Festival is free and open to the community. There will be games, face painting, dancing, bounce houses, bingo competition and more! Join us from 1pm to 3pm. 

Northwest Family Y:

Floating Pumpkin Patch: October 12th | Float into fall and the season of giving. Join us for our 2nd Annual Floating pumpkin patch from 6:30 to 8:30pm! Come prepared to get wet and have fun as you find your favorite pumpkin floating in the pool. Parents must be within arms reach of child at all times in and around the water. You will have 30 minutes of swim time and then time to decorate. Supplies will be available for children and families to decorate their very own pumpkins. Register!

Halloween Parent’s Night Out: October 13thJoin us for our Halloween-themed Parent’s Night Out from 6:30 to 11pm. Children will enjoy gym activities and swimming, while finishing up the night with a pizza party and a holiday-inspired movie. Register!

Halloween Paint Party: October 27th | Join us at the Northwest YMCA for an afternoon of Halloween-inspired painting! Our Art Explorers instructor, Ms. Dorace, will be leading parents and children through a painting! Be sure to bring your creativity with you to personalize your masterpiece. Class runs 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Register!

Spooktacular: October 27th | Come Haunt the NW Y Grounds with your family, friends and neighbors. There will be Halloween-themed games, prizes, bounce house, balloon artists, Trunk or Treat & Not-So-Haunted-Candy Trail. This event is free and open to the community. Stop by between 4 and 7pm. 

Hays Communities Y: 

Decorate Pumpkins for Members of the Community in Hospice Care: October 15th | Help brighten the season for someone who’s experiencing a serious illness. We will be decorating pumpkins for patients of Central Texas Medical Center Hospice Care from 5:30 to 6:30pm. We’ll use paints, botanicals, and glue-on decor instead of knives/carving; this way, everyone’s fingers will be safe and the pumpkins will last longer. All ages welcome, but children under 5 need to have their own adult assistant registered as well. Register!

Center Street Trick-or-Treat in Kyle: October 27th | Local businesses and organizations will set up tents and tables at City Square Park from 1 to 4pm to provide a fun and safe opportunity for trick-or-treating. We invite all “ghosts” and “goblins” young and old to come out to our Treat Trail for a fun afternoon of treats and a costume contest! Learn More!

Haunted Maze at Boo-Da Halloween: October 27th | Join the City of Buda in our 16th Annual Boo-Da Halloween event from 4:30 to 7:30pm! From costume and pumpkin decorating contests to a brand new haunted maze, we’ve got your Halloween needs covered! Enjoy this family-friendly event in the heart of downtown Buda. The Y will be creating a Haunted Maze for the event. Learn More!

TownLake Y: 

Trick-or-Treat Around TownLake: October 31st | Join us at the YMCA for Trick-or-Treat Around TownLake. On Halloween morning from 10-11am, preschool and homeschool children are invited to come in costume and trick-or-treat around the branch. Our friendly YMCA staff with have treats and good cheer to share. If you are not a Y member, please bring a photo ID to check in at the front desk. All members are encouraged to wear costumes to the branch on Halloween, too! It’ll be a spooky time of fun and fitness at TownLake!

Springs Family Y: 

Campout Under the Stars: October 19th – 20th | Join us for a campout under the stars on the Springs Family YMCA Soccer fields. Families will spend Friday night with us and depart by Saturday at 8am. Activities include a nature walk, swimming, outside movie and so much more! Friday night dinner, smores and Saturday morning breakfast will be provided by the YMCA. Each family is responsible for their own tents, toiletries, sleeping bag & pillow, and clothing. You may arrive anytime between 5:30-6:30pm to set up. Activities will start promptly at 6:30 pm. Friendsgiving Potluck: November 15th | Join us for a Friendsgiving potluck Thursday, Novemeber 15th at 11am. The YMCA will provide the turkey and ham. We are asking everyone to bring their favorite holiday dish to share.

Southwest Y: 

Halloween Boo Bash: October 26th | Join your friends at the Southwest Y for a Halloween Boo Bash in the Outdoor Pavillion from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Activities include: arts & crafts, bingo, haunted playground, pumpkin hockey, sweet treat and music. Costumes are encouraged. Learn more!

Family Camp Day at YMCA Camp Moody: October 20th | Join YMCA staff, Austin and Joe, for a fun morning of camp activities from 10am to 1pm, which will include, a campfire with s’mores, nature hike, fishing, fossil hunting, and more. Register!

Fall Family Jubilee: November 16th | Join the Southwest YMCA on Thursday, November 16 from 5:00pm-7:30pm, for our Fall Family Jubilee – experience a family fun evening at the Southwest Family Branch, as we offer a night of traditional camp activities in the backyard of the Southwest YMCA. Activities will include skits, camp songs, crafts, and games; hot dogs and s’mores, too! Also we will be featuring the entrants to our Food Truck Campfire-Friendly Recipe Contest where the finalists will be judged on-site for a stake to claim Campfire Cook of the Year!

YMCA Camp Moody:

Family Camp Preview and Backyard Movie: October 27th |  Come join us under the stars on the lawn at YMCA Camp Moody for screenings of some great family-friendly classics. Be sure to arrive one hour before the show to enjoy a “Family Camp Preview,” which will include a guided hike, fossil hunt, backyard family games, nature crafts, and more as well as a preview of our vision for the “Newest and most accessible YMCA Camp in the World, Camp Moody!” Suggested donation is $5/vehicle, and all proceeds will go toward building the future camp facilities of YMCA Camp Moody. S’mores kits, popcorn and bottled water will be available for a small donation. Bonfires for s’mores will be available, weather permitting. You are encouraged to BYORefreshments, blankets, and chairs. Gates open at 6pm, and movie starts at 7pm. RSVP!

Open Camp Hours: October 20th and November 23rd | Interested in seeing the Camp Moody property before construction begins? Come for a visit! Camp Moody sits on 85 beautiful acres just 15 miles south of downtown Austin, nestled in a horseshoe bend of Onion Creek. The property is easily accessible from I-35 or central Buda. Explore Camp by hiking through our forest trails and along the banks of the creek, envisioning the future Camp Moody facilities. You’ll be able to imagine having dinner with your family in the dining hall, flying through the air on the zip lines, sleeping in the bunks, roasting s’mores at the fire ring, and splashing in the pool. Come during open hours, 9am to 1pm, for a self-guided hike. Simply check in at the gate and start exploring! Dogs are welcome but must be on leash at all times. Learn More!

Family Campouts: October 13th & 14; November 3rd & 4th | Join other YMCA families and staff for a campout under the stars at YMCA Camp Moody located on Onion Creek. Families will spend Saturday night at Camp Moody and depart Sunday at 10:00am. Activities include a nature walk, fishing and so much more! Saturday night dinner, smores and Sunday morning breakfast will be provided by the YMCA. Each family is responsible for their own toiletries, sleeping bag & pillow, and clothing. The YMCA will provide tents and all supplies for the activities. You may arrive anytime between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon. Activities will start promptly at 2:00 pm. Register!
