Free Hot Showers for Our Community

Community

With widespread ongoing interruptions to local water service, the YMCA of Austin is offering the use of locker room showers for individuals, families and those who are in the community assisting with relief efforts.

The showers will be available to anyone affected by the recent water outages, and will be available during operating hours at the following locations beginning Monday, Feb. 22:

  • East Communities YMCA, 5315 Ed Bluestein Blvd., 512-933-9622
  • Hays Communities YMCA, 465 Buda Sportsplex Dr., 512-523-0099
  • North Austin YMCA, 1000 W. Rundberg Ln., 512-973-9622
  • Northwest Family YMCA, 5807 McNeil Dr., 512-335-9622
  • Southwest Family YMCA, 6219 Oakclaire Dr., 512-891-9622
  • TownLake YMCA, 1100 W. Cesar Chavez St., 512-542-9622

Individual branch hours can be found here. Community members interested in taking a shower are asked to bring their own towel and bathing supplies. Masks and I.D. are required at all YMCA locations. The Southwest and Springs Family YMCAs will open to the community once water is restored.

“This is a simple thing we can do for our community,” said Kathy Kuras, YMCA of Austin President & CEO. “We are a community-based organization, and in times like these we are working to do all we can to be there for the community we are proud to serve.”

On Saturday and Sunday, the Hays Communities Y teamed with the City of Buda to host distribution of drinking water. And as thousands of Austin-area residents faced prolonged outages of power and water, YMCA of Austin facilities opened to let residents warm up, recharge electronics and bathe.

“This is just what we do, here at the Y and all across Texas,” said Kuras. “When we face a challenge, we come together to help each other.”
