Brighter Bites Summer Food Distribution

If your only knowledge of Brighter Bites came during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, you’d be forgiven for thinking the organization is in the business of food crisis intervention. After all, the public health emergency disrupted so many people’s lives and livelihoods, and Brighter Bites was one of the important groups that helped to ensure families had access to healthy, nutritious food.

But their aim is bigger than weekly supplemental nutrition.

For Brighter Bites, it’s all about introducing youngsters to a broad palate of food flavors and inviting families in the preparation and enjoyment of healthy meals with a focus on collaboration and participation. The idea is that the younger a person is when they begin making healthy food choices, the stronger their association will be toward healthy eating their entire life.

Right now, the two aims go hand in hand. Many in our community are still impacted by economic effects of the pandemic. Brighter Bites is still unable to invite families into the preparation and hands-on lessons they are known for.

So, during the Summer of 2021, Brighter Bites is partnering with the YMCA of Austin to ensure access to healthy food for families. You can help distribute boxes of produce on Tuesdays and Wednesdays all summer long.
