Dearest YMCA community,

I woke up today with so much hope because of the kindness we share in our Ys every day. Then I glanced at the news, only to see the headline of yet another mass shooting. My heart sank.

Welcome back, Elizabeth Doss! One of our longtime teachers returned to the Y today (Friday 10/19) to introduce her new baby. Members and staff were overjoyed to meet baby Bronwyn, who is about a month old now. Mom, dad, and daughter are doing very well.


The YMCA of Austin is happy to welcome our newest member of the team, Dezmond Nation. Dezmond is a junior at the University of Texas, and he's interning with our Communication and Member Experience departments. 

Congratulations to the staff and members of the TownLake YMCA, named 2018 "Best of the Best of Austin" in the Fitness Center/Gym category in the Austin American-Statesman on Sunday, Sept. 30. Check it out if you still have a Sunday paper!

November is Military Family Month, and as a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the YMCA of Austin offers the following tips to help children of military families in the Greater Austin community cope while loved ones serve overseas.

For parents, the coming of a new school year always brings new challenges. It’s easy to get lost in the stress of it all: a new schedule; the addition of homework, clubs, and sports; and helping your child adjust to the million other demands and responsibilities they face at school.

Did you watch any of the World Cup? It’s been an exciting time for soccer. My brother-in-law and neighbors, all from Colombia, were especially glued to the games this summer.
