On May 16th, 2019, the YMCA of Austin celebrated 66 years as an organization at our annual celebration dinner, Gather ‘Round.

Y member Jane Hayman is a testament to what many personal training clients know: One-on-one support can transform not just your body but your life.

Hayman was preparing for a trip to Africa last year and had a goal to see a particular group of gorillas in the wild in Rwanda.

April showers bring May flowers, but we all know those showers sometimes linger through the late spring. It can be tough to keep restless toddlers entertained indoors. That’s why we’ve rounded up four fabulous rainy day activities for your toddler that are sure to brighten the gloomiest day!

Congratulations to Katie O’Neil, our most recent Super Member All-Star Highlight (aka SMASHer) here at East Communities!

It has been a whirlwind of a winter/spring at the Y! The TownLake branch welcomed new Sports Director Alison Zacharias in March, and she already has a season of youth sports under her belt! Please join us in welcoming and getting to know Alison a bit more!

The YMCA of Austin is very pleased to welcome Juan Ybarra, new aquatics director for the TownLake branch. Juan comes to Austin from El Paso, where he served for almost six years in the aquatics department of the El Paso Y. His official first day at TownLake is Saturday, May 18, 2019. Please help us welcome him. Juan writes:

Hello Team,

Since the beginning of our global organization nearly two centuries ago, volunteerism has played an integral role in transforming lives and strengthening communities.

Learn ways to support our friends and neighbors during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan

Marhaba! May 6 marks the beginning of Ramadan, a time of holy celebration and one of the five pillars of Islam. It is a time of reflection, self-accountability, charity, prayer, and fasting to commemorate when Mohammed received the first revelations of the Quran.

TownLake YMCA Volunteer Coordinator

On Friday, April 26, students from Hill Country Middle School volunteered at the TownLake Y for their Community Project Day. It was a special experience for the students, teachers, and our Y community.

Annually each May, the YMCA of Austin comes together to show our deep appreciation for the profound impact that our volunteers, invested members, staff, and donors have in delivering our mission every day. Gather ‘Round is coming up soon on Thursday, May 16 from 6 – 9 PM at the Hyatt Regency Austin.
