Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It! (MEND)
Free Program Starting Again This Fall!
Register soon!
Check out this recent News 8 Austin feature on the MEND program.
The YMCA of Austin is the first YMCA in the country to partner with MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It) in offering a childhood obesity intervention program for children and their parents. This free program begins again in this fall--either September 11th or 18th. Program locations will include East Communities YMCA, North Park YMCA, TownLake YMCA, a school in Hays County, and two other Austin area locations.
MEND combines three key elements of safe, effective weight management and sustained lifestyle change: healthy eating, regular physical activity, and behavior change. Children and families who attend the MEND Program learn important skills and knowledge to help them manage their weight and feel fitter, healthier, and happier for the rest of their lives.
Registration for the April sessions of this free program will start soon. Children must be ages 8 - 12 for the East Communities YMCA program or 7-13 for other program locations, overweight or obese, and may not be suffering from diabetes or dibilitating asthma. Physican consent must be granted before program participation. One parent must be able to participate with their child in each session.

Letter from James Finck, President & CEO
Dear YMCA Friends:
You may have seen or heard the media coverage yesterday regarding the announcement of our new brand - The Y.
What may not have been clear is that, regardless of the brand change, we're still the YMCA. Our name will remain the YMCA of Austin.
Our Mission: To put Christian Principles into practice
through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
