Facility:
Construction has begun on the $5.4 million renovation of the Southwest Family YMCA that will include the addition of community meeting rooms, a kitchen, a lounge and expanded fitness and cardio areas. The indoor track will be enlarged, and there will be a separate spinning class room. The two outdoor pools will include a six-lane lap pool and an aquatic playscape. While the racquetball courts will be eliminated, the basketball court will be expanded to a regulation-size half court. Features such as an elevator and an improved entrance will also make the building more accessible. The branch will remain open during the renovation, which is expected to be completed in about nine months. The project will be done in phases to minimize inconvenience to Y members.
